Sabine Plattner African Charities (SPAC) focusses on the protection of nature, with an emphasis on the rainforest in the Congo-basin, through education and community-driven empowerment. SPAC influences and supports the conservation of rainforests, wilderness and protected areas in Africa. This is done by supporting the livelihood strategies of local communities, also through education and science, by promoting school curricula with enriched afro-centric conservation-related content, which in turn provides people with the necessary knowledge to coexisting with nature.
About the Job
An exciting opportunity exists for a seasoned Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the full financial function up to trial balance level. The role includes overseeing reconciliations, payroll financial processes, VAT and PAYE submissions, and creditor and debtor management. Working knowledge of Xero™ and experience in preparing audit files are essential. The ideal candidate will have a finance qualification, at least five years of post-qualification experience, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-accuracy environment—ideally within the nonprofit sector.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring integration and ensuring alignment and accuracy of data
Approving creditors’ journals and checking creditor recons
Variance analysis
Reconciliation of Bank and General Ledger accounts
Checking creditors’ reconciliations
Liaising with suppliers as and when required for disputes, payments and other matters
Capturing to trial balance level
Filling and remitting taxes (VAT, PAYE) and other financial obligations as and when required.
Capturing on the financial and accounting software used by the company
Reconciling Debtors accounts, issuing statements and liaising with debtors
VAT reconciliation
Payroll financial reconciliations. Monthly payroll submission
Capturing the relevant information on payroll
Ensure correct management of all control accounts
Updating of fixed asset register transactions
Experience in capturing on Xero™
Preparation of audit files
Requirements
Tertiary qualification in Accounting / Finance (B Com / B Tech Degree with Finance / Accounting subjects)
Fully computer literate in MS Office Suite.
Minimum of 5 years’ accounting experience post qualifications in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy.
Fully proficient and experienced in Xero™ Accounting Software
Experience working in a not-for-profit setting.
Experience with monthly financial processes.
Proven experience of full financial accounting function to trial balance.
Ability to handle pressure, take ownership and accountability.
Strong logical thinking and analytical ability with excellent numerical skills.
The ability to be accurate and pay attention to detail.
Ability to speak and understand French
Excellent planning, organizing and time management skills.
A desire to travel for work should the need arise.
