About the Job

This individual will lead high-profile communications efforts across Africa, drive dynamic advocacy through creative storytelling and manage influencer and celebrity engagement. They will play a central role in shaping narratives that amplify ONE’s issues — particularly on development finance — by translating complex policy into accessible, compelling content that resonates with Anglophone and Francophone audiences that drives traction across local, regional, and global media markets. This role is ideal for a fast-learning, highly adaptable communications leader who thrives in a matrix, fast-paced international organisation, and who is passionate about amplifying African voices on the global stage.

Communications is at the heart of ONE’s impact. From mobilising grassroots support to influencing global decision-makers, communications is the bridge between policy and people. The Senior Manager, Communications and Influencer Management, will be a central player in shaping ONE’s reputation, reach, and relevance across Africa and globally.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications

  • Develop and execute innovative communications strategies that support ONE’s advocacy campaigns and organisational priorities.

  • Translate complex issues, particularly in development finance, into compelling, accessible stories that drive public engagement and influence decisionmakers.

  • Craft narratives that highlight African leadership, balance the African narrative globally, and ensure authenticity in ONE’s storytelling.

  • Monitor communications trends, digital best practices, audience engagements and media insights to keep ONE at the forefront of strategic advocacy.


Media Engagement

  • Build and manage strong relationships with our audience, e.g.,leading journalists and media outlets (e.g. New Time Africa, Africa News, eNCA, Newzroom Afrika etc) across Francophone and Anglophone Africa, while effectively translating African issues for global media.

  • Secure high-quality media coverage for ONE’s campaigns, events and advocacy priorities.

  • Serve as an internal advisor on African media dynamics to ensure resonance of global campaigns within local contexts.


Influencer & Celebrity Engagement

  • Lead influencer and celebrity engagement strategy in Africa, identifying, cultivating, and managing talent relationships that align with ONE’s mission.

  • Deploy influencers and cultural leaders effectively to amplify ONE’s campaigns, articles, social posts and events.

  • Ensure authenticity, credibility, and impact in influencer partnerships for advocacy.


Content & Storytelling

  • Lead and brief-in high-impact content (press releases, op-eds, speeches, social media posts, videos, etc.) tailored for different audiences and platforms.

  • Work closely with policy, advocacy, and brand & creative teams to deliver integrated communications outputs.

  • Drive creativity and virality in messaging to cut through crowded media spaces.


Leadership & Collaboration

  • Operate effectively within a matrix international organisation, collaborating with brand & creative and communication teams.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior communications staff and consultants.

  • Manage external vendors, agencies, and consultants where relevant.

Requirements

Essential experience and skills

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic communications, media relations, or advocacy communications in Africa.

  • Fluency in English and French (spoken and written).

  • Strong track record of working with both Francophone and Anglophone African media markets, with excellent understanding of local and global media ecosystems.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex policy issues into compelling, accessible content.

  • Proven experience managing influencers, celebrities, and high-profile personalities, with strong judgment in balancing impact and risk.

  • A strong journalism background that can be tapped into for possible partnerships.

  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and message development skills.

  • Creativity and proven ability to generate high-traction content.

  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to manage multiple projects in a fastpaced environment.

  • Passion for advocacy, social justice, and amplifying African voices.


Desirable

  • Experience in development finance, international finance communications.

  • Strong digital communications experience (social media strategy, online campaigns).

  • Established networks with African influencers, celebrities, and cultural leaders.
