About the Job
ONE is seeking a Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) to own and drive HR and Recruiting support in a consultative and strategic manner for ONE’s operations in Africa. The Africa HRBP will be responsible for providing expert advice, as well as strategic and tactical support and implementation of HR initiatives for ONE staff based in Africa. He/she will work with the HR Director and Chief People Officer to develop and direct the implementation of human resources policies, plans and programs across Africa and also take a role in global programs. This position will be based in Africa and will report to the HR Director and have a dotted reporting line to the Africa Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Provide HR services to include global human resources programs and policies, often encompassing several areas of human resources, including but not limited to organizational development, employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits, performance management, training, safety and research.
Collaborate with senior and executive management within ONE Africa to strategically align organizational design and structure to ONE’s mission, vision and goals.
Proactively identity opportunities and strategies to advance employee engagement, retention and morale improvement.
Consult with employees and management on employee relations issues providing guidance and assistance with policy interpretation, understanding of country-specific employment law, open and direct communication, conflict resolution, performance management and conduct related issues.
Establishes a strong rapport with team and managers in order to understand their strategic hiring needs, priorities, and constraints; to help the organization function and deliver optimally. Proactively communicate and report on HR matters in a data driven manner.
Implements best practice and processes to manage the talent acquisition lifecycle: selection, interviewing, pre-employment background checks and references, employment offers and ensures that recruiting and hiring practices comply with organizational policies and country-specific laws.
Recommends recruiting sources, creative and alternative advertising venues and strategies; tracks and reports on effectiveness.
Provide support and back up on broader and strategic HR initiatives across Africa, working with the Africa Executive Director, HR, and other relevant leaders and managers.
Serve as a member of the HR team. Provide input to or define short and long-term goals and objectives for HR delivery.
Ensure efficient processing of HR administration across ONE’s Africa offices.
Organize, facilitate and or deliver regional, market-based training as required.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business, or a related discipline and 8 years’ human resources experience, or a Master’s level degree and 5–8 years of directly related experience
Significant experience supporting staff on a range of HR issues with a focus on employee relations, talent management, and organizational development
Demonstrated ability to successfully influence and communicate with all levels, from employees to senior management
Membership of an HR professional organization is strongly preferred
Experience researching and interpreting labor law and regulatory issues in South Africa and Nigeria is required; experience in other sub-Saharan African countries is strongly encouraged
Demonstrated skills in the areas of problem-solving, systems thinking, diplomacy, conflict resolution, and influencing
Demonstrated success in managing negotiations and handling people in difficult circumstances; experience in employee mediation and arbitration would be a plus
High level of computer literacy with expert proficiency in Excel and proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Knowledge of strategic business transitions and change management is preferred
Experience working in a similar capacity for an international or NGO organization is preferred
Interest in international development and Africa is desirable
Fluency in English is essential; proficiency or fluency in French and other local languages is a plus
