About the Job
The Specialist, Programs & policy will support the Humane World for Animals South Africa Executive Director, Wildlife Director and program staff in the effective and efficient running of the local office and in the implementation of program and policy strategies to protect wildlife, animals in testing and research, animals on farms, companion animals, and animals in disaster.
Key Responsibilities
Support the senior management in the South African office in the effective execution of office and programmatic administration. This includes event logistics, travel arrangements, organizational, document and staff administration.
Preparation and management of the weekly payment run.
Contracts management, including the drafting of Contracts, MOUs, grant agreements, the collation of grant reports and the maintenance of a contracts management register.
Support and assist with the preparation of the budget proposals, budget variance reports, expense reports, programmatic dashboard updates.
Preparation of internal reports, project management workflows, and other materials needed for the development and execution of programs.
Preparation of the strategic planning materials.
Undertake factual and policy research to assist in the development of strategies and advocacy materials for HSI Africa programs
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Graduate degree in administration or relevant field
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in organizational administration work required at a senior management level; five (5) years is preferred.
Commitment to the organization’s objectives and mainstream operating style, with an interest in animal protection being preferred.
Document drafting skills, including contracts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and negotiation. Proficiency in English is essential.
Excellent organisational skills.
Ability to quickly absorb and communicate complex subject matter to a variety of audiences.
Ability to multitask, take initiative, and work effectively as part of a team or independently.
A high level of confidence, integrity, and interpersonal skills for effectively interacting with and influencing others, internal and external to the organization, as well as for facilitating meetings and conducting public speaking/presentations.
Ability to work patiently and astutely with different stakeholder groups.
Computer proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, with a current driver’s license and own transport being essential.
Must be based in Cape Town with the ability to work in a hybrid environment, either at home or in an office as required.
