About the Organisation

APRI - Africa Policy Research Institute is an independent and nonpartisan African think tank with offices in Berlin, Germany and Abuja, Nigeria. APRI conducts rigorous, evidence-based research on key policy issues affecting the African continent, offering insights and recommendations for both African policymakers and international partners, including the European Union and German government.

As a public-facing institute, APRI serves as a bridge between policy and practice, fostering deep collaborations with African scholars, civil society actors, and institutional partners. APRI’s work spans four key programs: Economy & Society, Climate Transitions, Just Green Technology Transition Program, and Geopolitics & Geoeconomics.

About the Job

The Climate Finance Fellow will contribute to advancing research and policy engagement under the Climate Transitions program. This role supports APRI’s mission to provide clear, actionable analysis on how African countries can navigate climate-related challenges while promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development.

The Fellow will be instrumental in shaping APRI’s growing climate finance research portfolio, focusing on areas such as just transition financing, public-private partnerships, multilateral climate mechanisms, and green fiscal policy. The position provides a unique opportunity to influence African and European climate policy dialogues through research, publications, and strategic engagement.

This role is part of the Climate Finance Fellowship, a 12-month program designed to bridge the talent gap in the climate finance sector. The Fellowship supports mid-career finance professionals who are looking to transition into purpose-driven, climate-focused work—particularly within nonprofit and civil society organizations across the Global South. Fellows are placed within high-impact host organizations, where they take on a core finance or strategy role. In addition to this placement, Fellows join a cohort-based learning journey that includes:

  • Tailored climate and leadership development modules

  • One-on-one coaching and mentorship

  • Peer learning and community exchange

  • Access to professional networks in climate and development

The Fellowship is led by Surge Climate Talent (SCT), with program design and implementation managed by Global Good x Amani (GG x Amani), an impact consulting and leadership development firm. Together, SCT and GG x Amani are working to ensure that host organizations are supported, Fellows are set up for success, and the program contributes meaningfully to strengthening the climate finance ecosystem.

This opportunity is especially suited for professionals from the private or public sectors with strong finance experience who may not yet have worked in climate or nonprofit contexts. It is also open to those currently in the nonprofit sector seeking to specialize in climate finance.
