What we do
Action Appointments provides a specialised, professional recruitment service to both clients and candidates. We operate in a wide range of local and international organisations and programmes. We regularly recruit for NGOs, community based organisations, donor agencies, government departments, consultancies and companies.
If you are setting up a new organisation, starting a new project or looking to fill an important vacancy at any level in the development sector, Action Appointments can help you find top quality staff.
We work on full-time, short term and contract placements from administrative to executive level and take on the entire recruitment process for clients. This includes advertising, response handling, headhunting, screening, short-listing, setting-up interviews and references, qualification and security checking. We can also augment recruitment processes already underway, supplying additional candidates to an existing pool to ensure that an effective recruitment process takes place.
Action Appointments, operating throughout Africa for more than a quarter of a century and expanding globally, is one of the the original recruitment agencies focusing exclusively on placements in the NGO and development sector.
Who we are
We are a small, effective team that manages big processes through solid systems and collaboration. We provide our clients with a personalised service that meets their needs and organisational requirements.
Our team is highly experienced within the development sector, with in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of recruitment processes and the functions and operations of civil society initiatives. We work across the board, from headhunting for high-level executive staff to sourcing field and admin personnel. No job is too big or too small for us.

Lisa Garson
Executive Director
Our team is headed up by Lisa Garson, the founding Executive Director of Action Appointments with 28 years of development recruitment experience. She is well connected within the sector and is readily available for consultations.
Tracy Lee Nyman
Director: Recruitment and Operations
Tracy holds a BA in Industrial Psychology and has been with the company for 12 years. Tracy has an in-depth understanding of the staffing needs of this dynamic and challenging sector and provides professional, personalised service to our clients and candidates.
Melissa Asia
Recruitment and Marketing Manager
Melissa holds a BTech National Diploma in IT and Business. She has been a Recruitment Consultant with Action Appointments for 10 years, ably managing staffing processes for many organisations from start to finish. She also manages Action Appointments marketing, social media and website, and oversees all the administration of the office.
Callum Fraser
Recruitment and Systems Specialist
Callum holds a BA in English and Economic History which assists him in understanding the requirements of social initiatives and communicating effectively while working on recruitment processes. He also has experience with software engineering and is developing the systems at Action Appointments.
Baxolele Mbenyana
Candidate Recruiter
Qualified with an Honours degree in Development Studies, Baxolele provides administrative and recruitment support. He also manages database entry and updating of candidates' profiles. Outside of work, he enjoys road running.
Action Appointments Director, Lisa Garson, offers career and individual coaching and progression workshops through NEXTSTEP Coaching and Training.
As a certified Coach in the International Zen Coaching Network and an Organisational Relations Systems Coaching (ORSC) practitioner, Lisa uses a variety of coaching techniques including deep listening, reflection and inquiry to create a safe space for her clients to pause, take a breath and notice what is really happening in them right now. From this more peaceful place they can discover their best next steps.
