The Sustainability Institute is recognised as a leading institution in navigating the transition towards just and generative futures through education, research, and practice. Founded in 1999, the Institute is an international learning centre teaching, exploring and applying ways of being that are restorative. Our focus on children is centred within the Lynedoch Children’s House, Lynedoch Primary Schools and Lynedoch Youth programmes. We are an expert in learning experience design for transformative education in sustainability in the African context. We offer knowledge, skills and a physical space for designing transformative educational experiences anchored in sustainability. Our expertise includes research and advisory services, offering and implementing learning programmes in partnership with other organisations, and SI-led courses and workshops.
About the Job
The Youth Programme Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the youth programme, along with its projects and activities that support youth participants and their development. The Youth Programme Coordinator needs to be passionate about developing youth from the Lynedoch community and supporting youth to become change agents in their community by unlocking their potential in a practical way.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Coordination
Develop programme goals and strategy in line with the SI’s broader strategy, mission, and goals.
Accountable for delivering against programme goals.
Assist in developing an evaluation method to assess programme strengths and identify areas for improvement.
Direct programme activities and schedule.
Develop and support enrolment and communications strategies.
Produce accurate and timely reporting of the programme as requested.
Manage key partnerships for the programme.
Team Management and Leadership
Recruit, develop, and lead the youth team.
Foster diversity, equity, and inclusivity amongst staff and youth participants.
Promote a healthy youth participant culture in and out of school.
Demonstrate a dedication to the cultivation of the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of the participants.
Provide for character education and ethical teachings in keeping with the mission of the SI.
Financial Management
Supervise financial management of the programme.
Develop a yearly budget, and maintain and track expenses according to the budget.
Assist in fundraising where necessary.
Non-Core Responsibilities
Since the Youth Coordinator will be based on the SI premises, certain non-core responsibilities are expected:
Keep SI surroundings free of litter.
Attend Monday morning staff meetings.
Attend the morning gatherings with students and participate in ilima.
Be able to give tours to visiting groups.
Drive in case of emergency.
Requirements
A post-grade 12 qualification, ideally in Social Work, Education or related field
2 - 3 years’ experience with social work, especially working with youth
Valid Driver’s license is advantageous
The following qualification is advantageous: NACCW NQF Level 5: Occupational Certificate: Child and Youth Care Worker OCCYCW
