About the Organisation

Since 2000, the Student Sponsorship Programme (SSP), a non-profit trust, has provided educational opportunities to over 1,500 talented South African learners from low-income households to attend the best schools in the country. With the generous contributions of institutional and individual donors from South Africa and the US, SSP gives five-year high school scholarship to academically distinguished scholars.

About the Job

SSP is looking for an experienced Development Associate who will play a crucial role in supporting the fundraising and development efforts of the organisation. The Associate will work closely with the Head of Development, Finance Manager and Executive Director to implement fundraising strategies, cultivate donor relationships, and ensure the organization's financial sustainability. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, analytical thinker and with a proactive approach to problem-solving and relationship management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and events.

  • Conduct research to identify potential donors, sponsors, and grant opportunities.

  • Draft grant proposals, sponsorship packages, and other fundraising materials.

  • Maintain a database of donors and prospects, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.

  • Support donor relations efforts, including acknowledgment letters, thank-you notes, and donor recognition initiatives.

  • Collaborate with programme staff to understand project funding needs and objectives.

  • Monitor grant deadlines and requirements, ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports.

  • Assist in the budgeting process, providing input on funding needs and projections.

  • Track donations, grants, and fundraising income in financial systems.

  • Represent the NGO at networking events and relevant community gatherings.

  • Identify potential collaborative opportunities with other organizations and partners

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as nonprofit management, international development, business, or communications. 

  • Proven experience in fundraising, development, or related fields within the nonprofit sector is preferred. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising content. 

  • Solid knowledge of technological approaches to support digital fundraising strategies 

  • Proficiency in using fundraising software Salesforce and databases/dashboards such as Tableau

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining accurate donor records and meeting deadlines.

  • Knowledge of grant application processes and grant management is advantageous. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external stakeholders. 

  • Passion for the SSP mission
