Communications Specialist (6 month contract)

1/1
Philippi Village
Cape Town
Closing Date:

Open

About the Organisation

Philippi Village is an entrepreneurial village with a social impact. Philippi Village is a space that houses local businesses, nurture entrepreneurs, enable skills development and support job creation.

There is extremely little office space in the area, and phase 1 of Philippi Village will provide infrastructure for local and social businesses, a space for entrepreneurs to trade and for businesses to thrive. As one of the most neglected areas in the Cape Town Metropole, Philippi Village is designed as an anchor, for both existing businesses, start-ups and the local community.

About the Job

Philippi Village is seeking a highly skilled hybrid talent, for the role of Communications Specialist. You will manage and improve all communication flows, within and outside of the company. In addition, you will be responsible for promoting a positive public image of the company through writing, editing, and updating digital information. Tracking content and website traffic, applying knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and adding videos and photos to make content more appealing and attractive will be essential for this role.

We have not done a great job at telling our story, or the stories of those that make up part of our ecosystem. We are looking for someone who can effectively communicate the value of our space, deliver relevant information to our stakeholders in a way that best suits them. We want to see innovation, excitement and the willingness to experiment with how messages are delivered in a complex community structure. Our stakeholders are dynamic and different - our Communications approach needs to respond to this.

You will be working with Philipi Village as well as one of our partners. Most of your time will be spent on site – lucky for you, it is a magnificent space. You will be expected to move between our partner spaces as well as our surrounding communities. We are located in Philippi, in between a series of informal settlements. If you cant see yourself on the ground, innovating and responding to the comms needs of our neighbours and partners – you should probably not apply! This is not a “sit at your desk” type of role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Researching, strategizing and producing content that can fuel an entire communication & marketing program

  • Create on-site editorial content and promote it on social media, newsletters, blogs and beyond.

  • Ensure brand consistency.

  • Use web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics) to analyze website traffic and user’s engagement metrics.
