Natural Justice: Lawyers for Communities and the Environment is a non-profit organisation, specialising in human rights and environmental law, operating in several countries in Africa, at the pan Africa level and influencing global processes.

About the Job

Natural Justice is looking for a Financial Manager who is highly skilled and experienced to oversee our organisation's financial operations. The Financial manager will be responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in financial management and possess excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices

  • Create and monitor annual budgets and forecasts and provide regular updates to Chief Finance & Operations Officer (CFOO)

  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements

  • Analyse financial data and provide strategic insights and recommendations to CFOO

  • Manage the organisation's cash flow and ensure that funds are correctly allocated and invested in collaboration with senior Grants Officer

  • Oversee risk management activities

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that financial goals are aligned with overall objectives of the organisation

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support growth and sustainability

  • Ensure that the organisation's financial records are accurate and up-to-date and that all financial transactions are correctly recorded and documented

  • Ensure the finance team is operating effectively and efficiently

  • Lead the organisation’s annual audit and ensure there is an audit plan in place

  • Supervise the donor audits and ensure the grants department is adequately prepared by way of audit plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial markets, and regulatory requirements

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills

  • Proven track record of success in financial management and strategic planning

  • Experience in risk management and financial instruments

  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and Excel

  • Experience in Pastel Sage, Xero advantageous
