Edulution is an innovative and proven learning platform transforming how Africa learns. Founded in Switzerland 2015, Edulution runs catch-up programmes in Edulution Learning Centres at government and community schools in South Africa, Namibia, and Zambia. The Edulution model is a unique mix of technology, enterprising Coaches, content, and evidence-based analytics that enable Learners to revise and master essential numeracy and ITC skills. The catch-up programme puts the Learner back on track and helps teachers deliver their curriculum.

About the Job

The Edulution operations in Africa (currently SA and Zambia) require an appropriately trained and experienced individual, to join the Edulution Tribe as a software developer. The role requires a responsible and self-directed individual, capable of applying their mind to a variety of different coding and design functions. The right candidate will have a good working knowledge of programming languages and the ability to learn new technology quickly. They will be comfortable working both on their own and as a member of a small team and working both remotely as well as making occasional trips within SA and the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • To investigate, design, develop, and test specific software solutions in support of the overall Edulution business model. The solutions should be pragmatic yet robust and suited to the needs of the business. The individual should demonstrate initiative, flexibility, diligence, and resilience in the process

  • To engage with business analysts to obtain a clear understanding of business requirements

  • To align with the technical and other guidance provided by the head of technology

  • Get involved with all aspects of software design and development

  • Create technical documentation

  • Conduct testing at various levels

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance existing software

  • Assist the business analysts with the gathering and documenting of business requirements (from the business and in some cases clients)

  • Attend and contribute to company and project meetings as required

Requirements

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar software development role

  • Bash shell scripting

  • Object-Oriented programming languages – Python

  • Mobile application development – Java or Kotlin or Flutter

  • Back-end web development technologies and API development – Node.js, Express or Django, Ruby on Rails (latter is nice to have)

  • Front-end web development frameworks – Angular.js or Vue.js

  • SQL and relational databases – PostgreSQL, SQLite

  • NoSQL databases – Redis, Firebase, Mongo DB

  • Git version control

  • Google APIs (Forms, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Cloud Datastore)

  • Continuous Integration tools – Jenkins, GitHub Actions


Other beneficial skills and experience 


  • Project management 

  • Process design 

  • User experience/ User interface design 

  • Familiarity with MSOffice suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

  • Familiarity with Google Suite applications (Forms, Drive, Sheets, Docs) 

  • Experience with Reporting tools - Qlik Sense, Qlik Nprinting 

  • Collaboration tools - Asana, Slack, Google Chat
