AktivAsia are activist educators and facilitators passionate about activist learning who facilitate training, education, research and organising to catalyse powerful people movements. If we are going to win campaigns for justice and rights, we need sharp strategies and increased participation in our campaigns. We need to bring more groups of diverse people, who withdraw their consent and cooperation from ‘business as usual’, into social change work. And if social change organisations are going to thrive, then education and training needs to be at the heart of the journey. Ongoing dynamic learning is core to social movements becoming bigger, smarter and stronger.

About the Job

AktivAsia is expanding its network of country training programs across Asia to bolster the strategic capacity of key climate movement actors, with established programs in four countries and a regional support team. The organization is seeking a Partnerships Manager to spearhead the partnership strategy for its newest and strategically important Korea program. This role involves working with stakeholders in the climate and energy ecosystem to identify strategic gaps and opportunities, thereby enhancing the impact of campaigns focused on Just Energy Transition. The Partnerships Manager will also foster a community of practice among grassroots activists and educators, contributing to the overall growth and innovation of AktivAsia’s initiatives in Korea.

Key Responsibilities

Partnerships Direction setting

  • Own the creation and implementation of a partnerships strategy and create accountability and feedback mechanisms that enable the country team to work towards achieving strategic objectives.

  • Represent AktivAsia effectively, communicating the mission, vision and theory of change, and provide a clear overview of our services, whilst also analysing the needs of key stakeholders.

  • Learn about potential and existing partner goals, interests, values and obstacles. Leverage this understanding to support partner and stakeholder discussions about goals aligned with AA’s mission.

  • Collaborate with the AA Program Manager to develop new programs to enhance program delivery based on the needs of key partners.

  • Conduct research and landscape analysis to support new opportunities and innovations.

  • Qualify all potential new partners to ensure alignment with AA's mission, goals, and shared understanding and expectations with partnership models.

  • Set clear objectives for AA’s programs in Korea, and monitor effectiveness.

  • Ensure that the organization's vision, mission, and values are aligned with the local context and needs.

  • Gather insights through qualitative and quantitative evaluation and feedback to learn from our successes and failures to create long term value and evolve our offerings to meet the needs of our partners.

  • Drive increased economic and cultural viability of national training and education programs in local languages/co-designed and co-owned by local people.

  • Support and strengthen training/ strategic capacity of national organisations and coalitions in South Korea.

  • Networking and collaboration across social movements and campaign organisations.

Project Management

  • Create time bound and realistic work plans and OKRs in alignment with country program objectives.

  • Support annual budgeting and metrics to meet or exceed our goals.

  • Manage the country program budget including financial management and administration.

Training Coordination and Implementation

  • Leading the development and implementation of local, contextualised online and in-person trainings (in campaign strategy, community organising, and public narrative and leadership) in South Korea.

  • Build online repository for Korean language campaign strategy and community organising curriculum.

  • Establish a locally-led and self-sustaining national training and education program (focused on campaign strategy, community organising, public narrative and leadership) in South Korea.

Requirements

Experience and skills:

  • 5-7 years of experience in strategic campaigning, community organizing, or climate justice.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Proficient in professional English and native-level Korean.

  • Independent, self-motivated, and skilled in self-management.

  • Familiar with remote work tools and flexible with working hours.

  • Willing to travel domestically and throughout Asia.

Required competencies:

  • Intellectual Rigour: Strong understanding of strategic climate and energy campaigns, able to work independently, conduct necessary research, handle uncertainty, and support decision-making at a macro level while guiding junior staff.

  • Relationship Building and Influence: Professional, able to build rapport and leverage networks, articulate the organization’s views in various forums, and contribute to both strategy and execution discussions.

  • Functional Expertise: Capable of managing multiple projects, knowledgeable about all organizational work streams, solution-oriented, willing to undergo training, and adept at time management.

  • Teamwork: Understands and supports other teams, breaks down silos, and mentors team members.
