Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused NGO working to mobilise the $100 trillion global bond market for climate change solutions. We promote investment in projects and assets necessary for a rapid transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy. Our main workstreams are green bond standards and certification, data and market analysis, policy and market development, communications and advocacy.

The Senior Technical Analyst will be part of the Climate Finance Fellowship, a pilot initiative providing pathways for finance professionals to transition to climate finance careers with the goal of accelerating organizations leading the energy transition financing movement in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In addition to your position at Climate Bonds, as a Fellow you will benefit from climate change, energy finance, and leadership development training, as well as building your global network of likeminded professionals. Some international travel may also be required. IREX, a global non-profit that has supported more than 50,000 Fellows over 50 years, will implement the fellowship and provide ongoing support to you and your host organization.

About the Job

Reporting to the Head of ASEAN Programme, this role will support the implementation of the Climate Bonds ASEAN Programme, which aims in promoting sustainable finance markets in the ASEAN region. The position shall develop and maintain both internal and external relationships to effectively serve the implementation of the assigned projects under the ASEAN project pipeline with a particular focus on Indonesia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical assistance and capacity building activities in the areas of green and sustainable finance with a focus on promoting financial instruments, such as green bonds and thematic bonds in ASEAN, in line with international and regional regulations and guidelines with proven knowledge of and experience in implementing green bond principle, climate bonds standard, climate bonds taxonomy, etc.

  • Engage with stakehoders and beneficiaries in financial and associated sectors in ASEAN in collaboration with the ASEAN team

  • Provide in-depth technical inputs related to sustainable finance under foreseen project activities as well as contribute to ongoing projects and market development in ASEAN.

  • Ensure the collaboration and support from the programme partners and stakeholders in ASEAN to make the projects under the programme run in an effective manner

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the existing programme and project stakeholders

  • Identify potential stakeholders in the ASEAN countries, including capital market regulators, policymakers, central banks, financial institutions, CSOs, development organizations, issuers, investors, etc. in line with the ASEAN development status

  • Conduct research on sustainable finance and relevant subjects at national, regional and global levels

  • Collaborate with other Regional teams and global teams in support of the CBI’s other activities as required.

Requirements

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • University Degree (Master’s degree or equivalent is preferable) in economics, international development, finance /sustainable finance or in a relevant subject with insightful knowledge of green bond principle, climate bond standard, climate bond taxonomy, etc.

  • Knowledge of the ASEAN regions and the ASEAN countries

  • Fluency in English (writing, reading, and verbal communication

  • Motivated and a self-starter; able to work independently

  • Flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and work to tight deadlines

  • Rigorous attention to details

  • Proven ability to research and analyze large quantities of information across different fields

  • Proven ability to develop and organize events


Desired qualifications and experience:

  • Knowledge of a second language - Literacy in one of the ASEAN languages is an asset

  • Knowledge of sustainable finance, green finance, climate change, and international capital markets

  • Experience in working in or with the government, policy, financial institutions
