About the Organisation
Sal Forest is Thailand’s first sustainable business accelerator. Founded in July 2013, the group aims to jumpstart and sustain a public discourse on sustainable business via events, print and online media, as well as conducting research on important sustainability issues in Thailand and social impact assessment.
This role will be part of the Climate Communications Fellowship (CCF), an initiative by the Tara Climate Foundation, in partnership with IREX. The fellowship is to enable experienced communications professionals to transition to the climate nonprofits in Asia that are working towards a just energy transition. In addition to the role with Sal Forest, fellows will be part of a broader cohort that will undergo training on environmental and climate change issues, coaching and leadership development, and will form a network of likeminded professionals in Asia. Travel within Asia for a launch convening will be required. Tara Climate Foundation is a regranter supporting a diverse group of over 350 partners in 13 countries to accelerate Asia’s clean energy transformation and IREX is a global non-profit that has supported more than 50,000 Fellows over 50 years.
About the Job
We are seeking an adaptable communications strategist to develop and implement the communications strategy and stakeholder engagement strategy for CFNT, a recently-formed think tank, as well as amplifying Sal Forest’s climate commitment tracker, a document that tracks and compares net zero plans for organizations in Thailand.
On the CFNT side, we envision the Communications Strategist will shape and implement the organization’s communications strategy, with a particular focus on engaging and mobilizing four key segments:
The Thai public, with the goal of messaging technical topics to inform and shape public opinion on key issues related to the just energy transition;
Both domestic and foreign media, with the goal of securing coverage on CFNT’s issues, reports, and advocacy campaigns.
And foreign research institutes/think tanks, with the goal of planning and engaging in relationship-building and collaboration to further advocacy goals.
This work will also entail managing communication timelines and drafting communications outputs (ex. press releases, social media posts, website content, campaign materials, etc.) to further the visibility of Sal Forest and CFNT’s work.
This is a full-time contract position for 1 year with the option of extending (to be considered at the end of the contractual period), based in Bangkok, Thailand. The role reports to the Managing Director.
Key Responsibilities
Developing and executing communications strategies to further Sal Forest/CFNT’s strategic goals.
Translating Sal Forest and CFNT’s research to the general public to inform and shape public opinion.
Building, managing, and leveraging relationships with partner organizations to amplify CFNT’s work.
Collaborating internally and externally to develop and execute strategy to amplify the climate commitment tracker’s launch and reach.
Building, managing, and leveraging relationships with foreign and domestic journalists to ensure coverage of Sal Forest’s work, particularly the climate commitment tracker.
Building, managing and leveraging relationships with aligned civil society organizations to further advocacy goals related to just energy transition.
Requirements
At least 5 years of experience in media or communications.
Interest in climate change and energy transition issues.
Track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies to further strategic goals.
Experience amplifying research or other technical content to the press and the broader public.
Strong press networks, ideally with Thai and/or international press, and the ability to strategically leverage these networks.
Experience building relationships with aligned organizations to further impact.
Strong writing, digital communications, and analytical skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and with excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability.
English-language fluency.
